Security technician Bruce Gabbard, confirmed that he was part of a surveillance operation by Wal-Mart which spied on not only company workers, critics, shareholders and even consultants. Mr. Gabbard stated, he was in charge to record every phone call, retrieve every private or non-private email and intercept every pager message. Immediately after such allegations, Wal-Mart's spokeswoman said: "Like most major corporations, it is our corporate responsibility to have systems in place, including software systems, to monitor threats to our network, intellectual property and our people." According to reports amde by the AP, Wal- Mart sarted making these surveillance operations in order to learn if any employees was trying to start a protest in the annual shareholder's meeting and also investigate if their health had been leaked out to McKinsey & Co, amongst other reasons. Wal-Mart has stated that they made public their surveillance and checked with federal prosecutors if they were breaking any laws. If such was the case, why they've refused numerous times to talk to the AP about their security activites. After finding out about their "privacy" being recorded Wal-Mart workers reported extreme discomfort but no workers have been reported quit their job solely because of this.

Suspected wire tapings on phone conversations in Japan. Reporters say that it may be linked to terrorist over seas. The reason for the wire tappings was mainly because of a leek that Japan was having conversations with terrorist from other countries. The recordings were made by U.S. intelligence and was never followed up on. The surveillance was done through wire taping by the U.S. The impact that the wire tapping had on society was that it went against the U.S Patriot Act.

Tom Riccio, an employee of a Los Angeles auction house, recorded a 90 minute meeting between six people, one of them being the infamous O.J. Simpson, and two memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas hotel. Riccio claims that he shot the video in the attempt to prove that the dealers were selling Simpson’s stolen property.
The recording is now in the custody of authorities but, of course, some of it was leaked to the media. Riccio sold five minutes of the hotel room incident to TMZ for an undisclosed amount. Thanks to websites such as YouTube and TMZ, to name a few, you can hear some audio of the incident; censored versions were also broadcasted on the local news channels. Society, some which still have their doubts about him, is yet again faced with the question of Simpson’s integrity.

A good example of a current event that was captured on audio recording is O.J Simpson recent turn of events. It all started when someone he knew came to him and told him somebody is selling stuff ,so he rushed back to where they selling his stuff. Unknown to his confrontation with the men that were selling his stuff was being recorded.

The recording was being done by the means of an audio tape recorder, ironically for O.J the recording was being done by the same person that told him his stuff was being sold. It was said by O.J`s friends they believe it was a setup, because a day or two after the person that did the recording sold the tape to a celebrity gossip site. The person that did the recording did it in means of making money.

As the recording became public through the media people were more convinced
O.J had something to do with his wife and boyfriend killings. On the recordings you could verbally hear him upset with the guys trying to sell his stuff. Public opinion of him was already terrible this just help society confirmed their negative thoughts of him.

Alaska House Speaker Pete Kott was arrested and charged with bribery, extortion, and other corruption-related charges involving allegations of soliciting and receiving money and favors from Veco Corporation. The audio surveillance recordings were made by the FBI. After the audio recordings were made they were admitted as evidence and played for the jury in the Kott trial. These surveillance recordings are important to the citizens of Alaska because they describe an uncover corruption made by their government. It was a good thing that the surveillance recording were able to be used in the trial. The recording were made also available at www.adn.com for people to listen to the conversation and the type of bribery and extortion that goes on in our own government

In today's society where the use of telephone is somthing that is very popular, wiretapping can provide a great help for catching criminals in the act or for simply giving the tapper important information for personal use. Wiretapping can also deprive a person of his/her privacy since the caller may have no knowledge that a third party is listening and/or recording the conversation.

Wiretapping stopped a plot to blow up planes traveling from the UK to the US. for more info go to

The F.B.I. set up a sting operation that in the end led to the arrest of 14 people. The people arrested were from Patterson and Passaic, New Jersey and were mainly Section 8 caseworkers and housing inspectors. The one person that is fighting the charges, Princess Reaves, was a deputy court administrator, that was accused of taking a bribe of $2,500 to make warrants disappear.
The audio recording by the F.B.I. and there "inside man," a cooperating unnamed witness, will be used as evidence by prosecutors again Ms. Reaves. The impact is about the Federal government being able to keep tabs on you wheneveer they want and can use it against you legally, and it won't be considered as a violation of privacy.

An example of the current use of sound recording for surveillance is the John McTiernan case. Well known director of films such as “Die Hard” and “The Hunt for Red October” was recently sentenced to four months in jail for hiring private investigator Anthony Pellicano to wiretap producer Charles Roven. McTiernan, who lied to the FBI when questioned about his involvement later pleaded guilty in court and admitted that he ‘misled’ FBI agents. Private investigator Anthony Pellicano, who has is own charges against him for bribing police for private information among other things is also awaiting trial. This breakthrough in the case has taken McTiernan off of his pedestal that he believed he was on.

Four Police Officers made secret recordings of their police chief's derogatory comments about female employees. The recordings were made because the captain told the chief to stop making derogatory and demeaning comments about women and was subsequently demoted. The recordings were then turned over to the city, and depending on the ruling of the judge in this case, they may be released to the public. Although the recording has not been released to the public as yet, we have some idea of what the recording entails. Most of society is appalled that a police chief would publicly degrade women, especially women that work with him.

In Carlisle, Pennsylvania a man was charged with using 7 years for using video taping and wire tapping of police activity at common routine traffic stop. The 18 year old was charged with the related sounds on the tape not the pictures that the camera took. His camera was taken on May 24 and he was put on $2,500 bail. The tapes which installed police activity and other things were seized and will be held against him in court. This will impact his life because he is not a juvenile and this will be on his records.

The Us navey used sound surveillance so that they can track submarines. Know this system was made up of hydrophone arrays that was mounted to the bottom of the seafloor throughout the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The US Navey no longer uses this method anymore. They have handed it over to scientific researchers so that they can study and track whales in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. What was brought out to track submarines is now being used to study whale life and to pinpont underwater volcanic eruption. After the recording was made by the US Navey of the submarines they used it in a way that they could better there system. The recordings of the whales and volcanic monitoring they are still using it till today. The recordings are received in a low frequency. The impact that it has made and is still makeing is that we are able to understand whale life. We are able to understand when a volcanic eruption will take place.

Rodney King was brutally beaten by the LAPD. He was being chased for a while after stopping, he then was asulted by 5 LAPD officers who claimed that he was resisting arrest even after being tasered and then they said that he tried to grad the gun of one of the officers. The whole event was recorded by George Holliday from his apartment minus 3 minutes form the beggining. This whole event triggered an outrage by believers that the act was an act of racial profiling and excessive force. After the recording was made it was used against the LAPD to pin the charges of police brutality and excessive force. This event led to many uprisings and started the 1992 Los Ageles riots.

On August 5th 2007 President bush signed a law that gave more power to the government when it came to eavesdropping on International phonecalls and looking at e-mails from american citizens. the Law also gave the N.S.A. the ability to tap any call without a warrent or probable cause. The government is allowed to tap into any call that the belive is "reasonably overseas". This law affects all of us because it forces us to watch what we say when it comes to voicing our opinions.

John Gotti was endited by video suvrvellance by the FBI and other secret service bureaus. They tried infiltrating his organization wiring memebers of his organization that turned snitch and their job was to get incriminating audio recordings.
